The Palo Alto girls' soccer team opened its Palo Alto Winter Classic schedule with a 1-0 loss to Sacred Heart Prep on a rainy Friday night. The Vikings (0-2) battled evenly for the first half until the Gators (1-0) fired a shot off the hands of Paly keeper Erin Chang. The ball stayed in play, with an SHP player finishing it off. Chang later suffered a sprained ankle when she was moved from the goal to the field to strengthen the Paly offense. Teammate Sonny Lyu nearly tied the match just before the final whistle when she beat a defender outside the 18-yard box, spun and fired a shot that hit the left post and bounced out of play. posted by Palo Alto Online on Dec 3, 2012 at 12:10 pm
