Palo Alto senior guard Aldis Petriceks scored 23 points, making four of the Vikings' 10 three-pointers during a 73-47 season-opening boys' basketball victory over host Menlo School on Wednesday night. Paly was playing without senior post E.J. Floreal, who has moved to Lexington, Ky., and Menlo was without football players Jack Heneghan and starting guard Peter Bouret plus an injured starter. Scottie Peery added 16 points for Paly while Ryan Young led Menlo with 16 with Bobby Roth adding 10.
"We played well in the first half but ran out of gas in the second as we were outscored, 43-20," said Menlo coach Delandro DeLay. "We had a five-point lead (27-22), but Palo Alto close out on a 8-0 run to end the half."
