Malcolm Davis put Palo Alto on top for good with a 26-yard scoring run with 2:21 left in the third quarter, leading the Vikings to a 40-21 romp over host San Benito in a nonleague football game Friday night.
The Vikings (1-0) rallied from a 7-6 deficit when senior wideout Jayshawn Gates-Mouton caught a 19-yard TD pass from junior quarterback Keller Chryst with 8:29 left in the second quarter. Paly bounced back from a 14-13 deficit when Matt Tolbert ripped off a 75-yard TD run.
San Benito went back on top, 21-20, with a TD with 5:42 left in the third, setting up the go-ahead score by Davis. The Vikings scored twice more in the fourth quarter to gain valuable momentum heading into next week's home opener against Mitty.
