In a nonleague game, the Sobrato Bulldogs made the trek up from Morgan Hill to lose at the hands of the Gunn Titans, 6-5. The Titans evened their record at 4-4 overall, while Sobrato sank to 1-4.
Senior righthander Jon Wong got his first start for Gunn, and was victimized by some poor glovework behind him. In four innings, Wong gave up 5 runs on 5 hits in 4 innings, only one of which was earned. Senior southpaw Charlie Smith was very effective when he came on in relief to earn his first win (1-0), shutting down the Bulldogs in order all three innings, on an economical 27 pitches.
At the plate, Gunn spotted Sobrato a 5-0 lead through three innings, but put up 2 in the bottom of the fourth inning, and saved the best for last. To start the bottom of the seventh, senior Ramsey Salah-Mars led off with a single to right. Junior Connor Dang followed with a four pitch walk. Senior Jake Verhulp was then hit in the knee, loading the bases. Senior Ryan Teranishi hit a clutch seeing eye 3 run double down the left field line. Teranishi advanced to third on a pass ball, and junior Kevin Sharp calmly stroked the game winning RBI single to the right-center gap.
Gunn next takes the diamond at 3:30 Tuesday, traveling to Cupertino in El Camino Division action.
