In the opening El Camino Division game for both teams, Gunn traveled to Milpitas and defeated the Trojans 9-4. The Titans evened their overall record at 3-3, and go to 1-0 in the SCVAL. Milpitas dropped to 1-5-1 overall, 0-1 in league.
The Titans took a 3-0 lead in the 2nd inning and never looked back. Senior ace Ryan Gorman was masterful under extremely windy conditions, giving up 3 earned runs on 7 hits. Senior southpaw Charlie Smith came on in relief and went 1 2/3 innings, getting a double play fly ball out to junior third baseman Kevin Sharp to shut down a Trojan rally in the bottom of the 6th.
At the plate, Gunn came up with a season high 10 hits. The Titans were led by senior Graham Fisher, who went 3 for 4 on the day, with his second homerun of the season, two doubles, 3 RBI’s, and 3 runs scored. Gorman also went 3 for 4 on the day. The Titans tied their season high with 4 stolen bases in the game, with junior Connor Dang swiping two.
The teams play a rematch Thursday at Gunn, with first pitch scheduled for 3:30.
