Despite getting off to a slow start, the Palo Alto girls' basketball team pulled ahead and held on for a 47-44 victory over host Lynbrook to earn a three-way for the SCVAL De Anza Division championship on Friday night. The Vikings finished 10-2 in league (17-4 overall) while tying Gunn and Wilcox as all three teams held a 1-1 mark against each other.
"We had a hard time getting into flow of the game," said Paly coach Scott Peters. "Stephanie Allen fouled out early in the third quarter. Emilee (Osagiede) was battling an injury but played through it. It was a gut- check game for us to win on the road and secure the three-tie for league champion.
"I thought we had some players who really stepped up. Annie Susco was huge; we only took her out of the game when she was tired. Danielle Palmer is working very hard to play the Paly defense and it is starting to show. Sam Borsos did not score but was a huge factor in the game with steals and rebounds and overall great defense."
Osagiede took over the game in the fourth quarter and pushed Paly to victory. She made 6 out 7 free throws in the fourth quarter and 11 for 15 for the game.
"Emilee is the best I have ever seen at Paly in closing out games," said Peters. "She has done it so many times I have lost count."
