The Palo Alto girls' basketball team moved into a tie for first place in the SCVAL De Anza Division with a 62-46 victory over visiting Mountain View on Friday night. The Vikings improved to 6-1 in league and 13-3 overall and earned a share of the top spot following Gunn's 43-37 upset of previously unbeaten Wilcox on Friday.
Paly got easy baskets off forced turnovers and transistion opportunities. Paly coach Scott Peters said that senior guard Lindsay Black played with "great effort and heart, which inspired the rest of the defense to play with sense of urgency." She finished with 11 points while junior Stephanie Allen tied for team-high honors with 12.
Josie Butler and Sam Borsos also were instrumental in disrupting the Mountain View offense with their defensive presence. Emilee Osagiede (12 points) and Butler (nine) played only three quarters as the Vikings cruised.
