The Palo Alto girls' soccer team battled to a scoreless draw with host Los Altos on Friday in SCVAL De Anza Division action. The Vikings (1-2-2, 3-4-4) controlled the ball in the first 20 minutes while out-shooting the Eagles, 5-1. As the rain picked up, however, it became more of a long-ball game that went no where for both teams.
In the second half, Paly had two attempts on goal in the first few minutes that failed to produce a goal. After a Paly corner kick, Los Altos had a breakaway that was foiled. Los Altos gained momentum after this, threatening the Vikings with two shots and two corners. But Paly keeper Erin Chang made crucial saves.
WIth 25 minutes remaining Paly coach Kurt Devlin subbed freshman Amanda Shorin in center-mid and freshman Aoi Sugihara in forward, changing the dynamic on the field. Both talented freshman had been injured early in the season, seeing little play time up until now, and helped to add an offensive push towards the goal that nonetheless came up empty on the rainy day.
