Castilleja extended its winning streak against the current teams of the West Bay Athletic League (Skyline Division) to 55 with a basketball victory over visiting Mercy-Burlingame on Friday night. Castilleja (1-0, 6-6) went into halftime with a three-point lead thanks to freshman Paige Vermeer, who hit a three-pointer in the closing seconds of the second to break a final tie. Vermeer finished with a career-high-tying 14 points and a career-high eight steals.
The Gators were led in the scoring column by senior Riya Modi, who tallied 17 points to go along with a team-high six assists. Junior Lauren Rantz tied a career-high with a team-leading 17 rebounds in the victory.
