The Gunn girls' soccer team started off the new year in a good way with a 3-1 nonleague victory over visiting Menlo School on Monday. The Knights (3-3-2) led 1-0 early with the goal coming midway through the first half when senior Sophie Sheeline scored from 10 yards out off a cross from sophomore Chandler Wickers.
Gunn (4-5, but 3-5-1 for CCS points) equalized it two minutes into the second half when Cadence Lee scored off an assist from Sarah Robinson. Robinson scored off an assist from Ming Ming Liu at 10 minutes and Liu added an unassisted goal at 25 minutes.
Liza Marinaro played relentless defense for Gunn while Alexandra Walker and Shannon Lacy led the Menlo defense. Junior Julia Dressel (five saves) was in goal in the scoreless first half and junior Kelly McConnell (four saves) played the second half. Gunn outshot Menlo 14-8.
