With junior point guard Stephanie Allen tossing in 16 points and backcourt teammate Lindsay Black adding 14, the Palo Alto girls' basketball team remained atop the SCVAL De Anza Division with a 60-47 victory over host Mountain View on Friday night. The Vikings improved to 2-0 in league (9-2 overall) while controlling the entire game.
"I thought it we took a step forward in playing and supporting each other as a team," said Paly coach Scott Peters. "When Mountain View tried to make a run at the end of the game, the girls on the bench provided great energy to their teammates who were scrapping and fighting to finish the game."
Paly senior Emilee Osagiede scored her 10 points (all in the first half) and Josie Butler dominated the boards. Both were catalysts for the Vikings' transition game. When Paly got the ball out on the break, Black and Allen made great decisions with it to lead the scoring. Peters also liked the play of sophomore Hope Crockett, who played tough hard-nosed defense, "which is something this team is striving to do every game," he said. "This was a good win that allowed some of our rotation players a chance to feel the pressure of competing and this will help us in the future."
