Palo Alto continued its rebuilding year in boys' soccer as the Vikings dropped a 3-0 nonleague decision to visiting St. Ignatius on Tuesday. Paly was out-shot, 11-3 while falling to 0-4-1 this season. Palo Alto went 0-3-1 in the Winter Soccer Classic in Pleasanton last week -- losing three matches by a combined score of 10-1.
"We are having a rough start with one returning player from last year," said Paly coach Don Briggs. "It's a very young team. Out of 21 players, we have two seniors, seven juniors, eight sophomores and four freshmen."
Briggs lost eight starting players that were scheduled to return with two going to soccer "academies", one to Spain for a year, one to academics, three to club obligations and two to injuries that have not yet healed.
