The Palo Alto girls' volleyball squad became the first team in school history to win back-to-back state titles by outlasting Marymount, 25-17, 25-23, 22-25, 20-25, 17-15 in the CIF Division I finals on Saturday at Concordia University in Irvine. The Vikings let a 2-0 lead get away and trailed in the fifth set, 13-7, before rallying to win the state crown.
Palo Alto senior Melanie Wade had 26 kills and was named the Most Valuable Player of the championship match. She got her 26th kill to put the Vikings on top 16-15 in the final set, with the match decided when Marymount hit out.
