Senior wideout B.J. Boyd caught touchdown passes pf 37 and 42 yards from sophomore quarterback Keller Chryst to lead No. 4-seeded Palo Alto to a 20-6 victory over No. 5 Leland in a Central Coast Section Open Division football opener on a rainy Friday night in Palo Alto.
The Chargers (9-2) grabbed a 6-0 lead on a pair of field goals before Chryst and Boyd began hooking up on their two long pass plays. Boyd now has 22 touchdowns this season. Senior running back Dre Hill added the other score on a one-yard run.
The Vikings (9-2) will play No. 8 seed St. Francis (6-5), which upset No. 1 Oak Grove, 20-17, next Saturday in the semifinals at San Jose City College at 7 p.m.
The other Open Division semifinal will match No. 2 Bellarmine (10-1) against No. 6 Mitty (7-3-1). The Bells eliminated No. 7 Terra Nova, 56-12, while the Monarchs bounced No. 3 San Benito, 36-0. The championship game will be Friday, Dec. 2 at San Jose CC at 8 p.m.
