Palo Alto set the stage for a shot at defending its SCVAL De Anza Division football title by blasting visiting Los Altos, 74-14, on Friday night. The Vikings (5-1, 7-2) need to beat host Milpitas next Friday in order to claim the division's top seed for the Central Coast Section playoffs. The Vikings took over sole possession of first place following their resounding victory, coupled with the Trojans' loss to Homestead on Friday. Milpitas fell to 4-2 and 7-2 while Los Gatos moved into second place at 4-1-1 (7-1-1). Paly celebrated its Senior Night with senior Dre Hill leadig the way with three rushing touchdowns, a receiving touchdown and a blocked punt that a teammate returned for a TD. The Vikings scored four times on special teams, including a 75-yard kickoff return by B.J. Boyd to open the second half and a 62-yard kickoff return by Gabe Landa. The game was so lopsided that the Vikings ran only 14 plays from scrimmage and had only two pass completions for 85 yards against last-place Los Altos (0-6, 1-8), which suffered eight sacks by the aggressive Paly defense.
