Palo Alto's two-year reign as the SCVAL De Anza Division football champion likely came to an end following a 17-14 last-minute loss to host Los Gatos on Friday night. The Wildcats moved into first place with a 2-0-1 record (5-0-1 overall) while the Vikings fell to 2-1 (4-2).
Palo Alto had tied the game at 14 on a touchdown by senior B.J. Boyd. With time running out, the Vikings forced the Wildcats to punt, but a Paly defender ran into the Los Gatos punter and the Wildcats retained possession. A 39-yard pass play put Los Gatos on the Paly 10 to set up a winning field goal as the Wildcats ended a two-year league losing streak to Palo Alto. The Wildcats lead the all-time series, 18-5.
