Palo Alto bounced back from its first losses of the season last weekend and opened defense of its SCVAL De Anza Division title with a 25-9, 25-18, 25-16 victory over visiting Gunn in girls' volleyball action Tuesday night. The Vikings (1-0, 14-2) who lost twice in the Mitty Invitational and fell out of the national rankings after being ranked as high as No. 4, improved to 55-3 in its past 58 matches while Gunn dropped to 0-1 (10-7) following a 2-2 effort at the Harbor Classic on Saturday in Santa Cruz.
Senior Melanie Wade led Paly with 11 kills with senior Maddie Kuppe adding eight. Gunn senior Julia Maggioncalda paced the Titans with 11 kills.
