The streak is over for the Palo Alto girls' volleyball team, which saw its two-year winning string of 27 straight come to an end in a five-set loss to No. 9 seed Santa Barbara in the second round of the prestigious Mitty Invitational on Friday night. The top-seeded Vikings (12-1) hadn't lost since nearly a full year ago and came into the national event ranked as high as No. 4 in the country in one poll. Palo Alto, which had won seven straight tournaments over a two-season period, will play on Saturday at 10 a.m. The Vikings need to win both their matches on Saturday to finish fifth.
