SOLAR WATER HEATING ... Jordan DiGiorgio, solar water heating program manager at California Center for Sustainable Energy, will teach a free workshop on "Solar Water Heating" on Thursday, July 14, from 6 to 9 p.m. at Cubberley Community Center, Room H-1, 4000 Middlefield Road, Palo Alto. JOYS OF SUMMER ... Filoli is offering a couple of classes to maintain one's home garden in tip-top shape, both on Saturday, July 16; both take place outdoors at 86 Canada Road, Woodside. "The Joys of Summer," from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., deals with planning annual displays, pruning perennials and spring-flowering shrubs, fruit thinning and preparing the garden for fall. "Pest Management," from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m., begins with identifying pests and diseases, then includes proper plant selection, site preparations, soil conditions and emphasis on non-chemical control.
