City Council (May 9)

Bike plan: The council heard a presentation about the ongoing update to the city's Bike and Pedestrian Transportation Plan. Action: None

Block grants: The council approved the proposed Community Development Block Grant funding allocation and adopted a Draft Action Plan for fiscal year 2011-12. Yes: Unanimous

Board of Education (May 10)

Academic calendar: The board voted to change the district-wide academic calendar, moving to a school-year start date earlier in August and an end to the first semester before the December holidays, beginning in 2012-13. Yes: Klausner, Mitchell, Tom No: Caswell, Townsend

Policy and Services Committee (May 10)

Binding arbitration: The committee discussed the binding-arbitration provision in the City Charter and considered whether the city should put the repeal of the provision on the November ballot.
