TREE WALK ... An arborist will lead a free tree walk through the Greenmeadow neighborhood on Saturday, July 13, 10 a.m. to noon, meeting at the Greenmeadow Community Center, 303 Parkside Drive, Palo Alto. Expect to see sugar maple, bigleaf maple, cork oak, Torrey pine, Brazilian pepper tree, Moraine ash, soapbark tree, tulip tree and holly oak. Information: www.canopy.org.

FOCUS ON FLOWERS ... UC Master Gardeners will offer a free, drop-in plant clinic with a focus on growing healthy flowers and planning flower-cutting gardens from 9 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 13, at Gamble Garden, 1431 Waverley St., Palo Alto. Topics range from growing perfect roses and hydrangeas to soil types, plant nutrition to organic sprays. SAUSAGE MAKING ... Charcuterie chef Quentin Levy will demonstrate how to make fresh Italian chicken sausage (with fennel, anise and pepper flakes) as well as cured Sopressa salami (with pork, tellicherry peppercorns and Utah pink mineral salt) from 3 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, July 14, at Hidden Villa, 26870 Moody Road, Los Altos Hills. FREE FABRIC ... The next FabMo free fabric distribution event is Thursday, July 18, 4 to 8 p.m.; Friday, July 19, 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday, July 20, 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Appointments are required, to help manage the crowds (Email gather.fabrix@me.com with preferred date and time), but some drop-in hours are included. LEARN TO SEW ... Christine Hopkins will teach a class on "Intermediate Sewing" from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursdays, July 18-Aug. 8, at the Gymnastics Center, 501 Laurel St., Menlo Park. The hands-on class will deal with improving sewing skills, with the goal of making at least one project in class. Cost is $85 for non-Menlo Park residents, $64 for residents, plus $5 materials fee; sewing machines may be used during class for $20. TOP DOLLAR ... Palo Alto topped the list of Silicon Valley luxury homes sold in May, with a 7,200-square-feet-plus wonder that sold for $6.294 million, according to a report by Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage. The home boasted four bedrooms and 10 baths. Sales of Santa Clara County homes that went for more than $1.5 million rose 28 percent over a year ago, the report noted. Not only did more homes sell, but they went faster and for a higher percentage of their asking prices, compared to a year ago. More "luxury" homes sold in Los Altos (51), followed by Palo Alto with 38.
