Alpine Hills awards tennis trophies

The first trophies of the Alpine Hills Junior Fall Classic Open were handed out Wednesday at the Alpine Hills Tennis and Swim Club.

The combination of Portola Valley brothers Reuben Sarwal and Richie Sarwal proved too much to handle in the boys' 16 doubles tournament. Sarwal and Sarwal won the round-robin format to win their division.

Reuben Sarwal also played in the boys' 14 doubles tournament, but he and partner Scott Evans, also of Portola Valley, dropped the final match, 6-1, 6-4, to the No. 2 seeded duo of Michael Boggs and Cameron Kirkpatrick.

The team of Palo Alto's William Borie and Stanford's Jake Chua-Gozani reached the finals of the boys' 12 doubles division, advancing with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Portola Valley's David Quezada and Robert Thompson.

Richie Sarwal and Zeke Brown played for the 16 division title Thursday afternoon.

Menlo Park's Cameron Kirkpatrick, the fourth seed, advanced to the semifinals with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Menlo Park's Matt Liston.

In boys' 12 singles action, Jake Chua-Gozani finished second. No 4 Shiv Matta beat Portola Valley's Michael Quezada, 6-1, 6-2 to reach the semifinals.

In girls' 16 singles action, Menlo Park's Erin Laporte and Palo Alto's Paulette Wolak each lost their semifinal match on Thursday and played for third place.

Aashli Budhiraja lost her semifinal match in the girls' 14 division but came back to claim the third-place trophy.
