ALL ABOUT COMPOSTING ... UC Master Gardeners will teach a free workshop, "All About Composting!," on Saturday, March 6, from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Palo Alto Demonstration Garden, 851 Center Drive, Palo Alto. The workshop will cover starting a home-composting system, including how to build a compost pile. TEACHING TOLERANCE ... Deva Luna, who works for Earth Care Landscape and specializes in water-wise gardens, will teach a class on the "Secrets of Drought-Tolerant Landscaping" on Saturday, March 6, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Common Ground Garden Supply and Education Center, 599 College Ave., Palo Alto. CAMELLIA TOURS ... Every Thursday and Saturday in March (except March 20 during Spring Fling) visitors may explore Filoli's extensive camellia gardens on a docent-led tour from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Reservations are required. Admission to Filoli, at 86 Canada Road, Woodside, is $15 for adults, $12 for seniors (65 years and older), $5 for students, free for children 4 and younger. GROWING GOOD ROSES ... Cynthia Chuang will offer "Tips for Growing Good Roses, Month by Month" at the next meeting of the Peninsula Rose Society on Wednesday, March 10, at 7:30 p.m. The group meets at the Veterans Memorial Senior Center, 1455 Madison Ave., Redwood City. So here are a couple of upcoming classes: "Herbaceous Landscape Plant ID," Tuesday, April 13, 1:30 to 3:30 p.m.; and "Plant Propagation," Tuesday, May 18, 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Each class costs $40 for non-members, $35 for members.
