20th Annual Palo Alto Weekly Photo Contest
"To Chase the Darkness with Light"
This photograph was inspired by my lamp, which looks like a ball of light from certain angles. I decided to play with the idea of contrasting the light of the lamp with darkness. I put on a black dress and put eyeliner around my eyes, plus wing-like strokes under my cheekbones, which were meant to make the face a little darker and look more otherworldly. The actual taking of the photograph was quite challenging, as I was both the model and the photographer. It took several hours between doing wardrobe, hair, makeup, photographing, and editing, but I managed to get a photograph that I liked: it had a good narrative to it, nice lighting, and the wire of the lamp wasn't showing!
