Stories, Fables & Other Tall Tales!
May 2001

Photographs by David Neville

The 79th Annual May Fete Parade was held in Palo Alto on Saturday, May 5 with the theme, "Stories, Fables & Other Tall Tales". This parade for children featured "literary inspired" marching bands, decorated floats, stilt walkers, clowns, storybook characters, and thousands of children marching, cycling, strolling and parading their pets on University Avenue in downtown.

Peter Wing, dressed as Sgt. Pepper, pulls Heffalump Nursery's yellow submarine. The sub won the parade's grand marshal's award.

Kalvin the Goat relaxes with members of the J.L. Stanford band before the parade on Saturday morning.

Members of Dance Connection perform during the May Fete parade.

Greer Hoyem, 15 mos., watches the parade with her mother Lara.

A crowd of children and parents react and point to a passing float during the May Fete parade.

Shriners Gordon and Willa Markley, known as Twinkles and Sunny, wave to the crowd.
