Posted by Ethel G. Harris, a resident of East Palo Alto, on Nov 11, 2008 at 9:42 am It's a bit harsh to fire someone during these hard economic times. Unless, they're unwilling to change their means and ways. The Chief of Police, and her Officers should be required to attend Workshops and Seminars on Cultural Diversity, and spend time in East Palo Alto apologizing to African Americans, and Latino (Human Beings).

Posted by Why, a resident of the Charleston Gardens neighborhood, on Nov 11, 2008 at 10:24 am Why should the officers have to go, they didn't make the comment and the statistics that the department VOLUNTEERED to start collecting years before this shows that they don't racially profile. Make the Chief attend workshops and seminars and do teh apologizing. Don't throw the baby out with the bathwater.

I doubt it. I am surprised that their name is so sexist - Postmenipausal People might be better.

Posted by tom, a resident of the Midtown neighborhood, on Nov 16, 2008 at 8:28 am Please read the Letters to the Editor in the Weekly for Nov. 14. Marilyn Masciarelli's letter describes what the law(s) are regarding stops/contacts by police with citizens. One thing left our was that when contacted by police, a citizen has the right to ask if they can leave the conversation.
