VIDEO: Stanford janitors stage protest

Almost 100 janitors who work at Stanford University went on strike Wednesday after a stalemate in negotiations for a new contract, the Stanford Daily reported.

Today they staged a peaceful walk through downtown Palo Alto before circling back to Stanford, carrying colorful placards and flags and a large banner reading "United Stanford Workers." (See video.)

The janitors are employed by ABM Janitorial Services, a contractor that provides services to the university. The janitors are members of Service Employees International Union (SEIU), Local 717, which is negotiating with ABM for a new contract.

Demonstrating workers marched on the campus office of ABM Wednesday afternoon, briefly blocking traffic near Bonair Siding, the Stanford Daily reported.

The contract between SEIU and ABM expired April 30.

315 Bonair Siding, Stanford, CA.

Yesterday the police were called because protesters were invading an office. Today they are going there because protesters are using the bathrooms.

Maybe someone could drop off a couple of port-a-potties for them as a good gesture.

It looks as though ABM is doing ok.
