| John Paye brought some magic to the Menlo School girls' basketball program by guiding the Knights to three straight state championships from 1989-91.
Paye's newest challenge is to return the Menlo girls to respectability as the team's new head coach.
"It's great to have John back home," said Menlo athletic director Craig Schoof. "I look forward to working with him and getting our girls' basketeball to again be a force on the Peninsula. He certainly knows the school and what it takes to be a successful coach at Menlo."
Paye graduated from Menlo in 1983 and went to Stanford where he started as quarterback on the Cardinal football team and guard on
the basketball team. During Paye's previous tenure as the Menlo girls' basketball coach, he was able to coach his sister, Kate, on the three state championship teams. Kate later played at Stanford and was on the 1992 NCAA championship squad.
"I am happy to be back at my alma mater and I look forward to the prospect of rebuilding the Menlo girls' basketball program," said Paye, who last season coached the girls' squad at Notre Dame-Belmont.
The Menlo girls finished last in the PAL South Division this past season, going just 1-9 in league and 7-16 overall.
