Man killed on El Camino by hit-and-run driver

All along El Camino Real between Shoreline and Ringstorff Avenue and points in between there are countless jaywalkers crossing El Camino Real. The major problem is between Escuela and Miraposa. These [portion removed by Palo Alto Online staff] people do not care about the traffic law or their own life's They run and sometimes just walk across El Camino without a care of the traffic. This problem is a failure of the Mountain View Police Department of not enforcing the jaywalking law. Mountain View could also help by putting a fence down the middle of El Camino Real to help to stop this problem.

Try and use a crosswalk on El Camino. Cars won't stop for nothing on that road.

Always cross at a light, even if it means walking a bit further.

Did you miss the "Hit and Run Part" I think there are looking for help in trying to inforce the LAW..Remember the Police do that. Like the young man who Raped the young Women.. Chase BAD guys...

There are looking for someone who ran another person over then ran off. Now that person is dead and look at the above comments???

The first comment has some meaning,maybe after we take a look at the incident.. Help find the bad guy?? First... Help the Family?

Where in the story did it claim that the man was jay-walking? He was found on the SIDE of the road. Nothing more, nothing less. The jumping to conclusions here is just shameful. My condolences to his family - this is a very sad loss.

i'm very careful at crosswalks since coming to california. there are just a lot of people on the streets - walking, biking, etc.

that said, as careful as i am, it seems like any time i drive on el camino and am making a turn onto or off el camino, i think, 'damn - that person is lucky i'm being so careful and paying close attention, else they'd be done'.

these burbs are not safe for any type of non-car person/vehicle/etc. - whether you cross at the proper place or not.

i'd support a complete safety and lifestyle overhaul of our society. massive taxes to car drivers. massive subsidies to walkers and bikers. cut all subsidies to the auto and oil industries.

walking around palo alto/mountain view/etc - too dangerous.

Have you looked at the sidewalks in Palo Alto. You will trip and break your neck.. Walk in the street break your leg stepping in a pot hole. If you do not get run over. There are so many bad guys to chase they do not have time to give jaywalking tickets..

I remember there was a time when the police started giving jaywalking tickets on University Ave.Lasted 2 days I think.. Then someone who had THE PULL got one..So no more tickets.. How many times have you seen a police officer on the ave and all kinds of crazy stuff going on. They were looking the other way I bet? Unless you look like you have NO PULL..
