VIDEO: Council candidates talk about the issues

To help voters become familiar with candidates running for Palo Alto City Council and the Palo Alto Unified School District Board of Education, Palo Alto Online is posting video interviews with each person.

The interviews were conducted by Palo Alto Weekly Publisher Bill Johnson and members of the newspaper's editorial staff. In the videos, candidates speak about an array of local issues -- such as the city's library system, proposed Stanford development and Mandarin immersion -- as well as each person's reasons for running for office.

This is the first election season during which Palo Alto Online staff has posted video interviews of council and school-board hopefuls. Ten of the 11 council candidates participated (Stella Marinos declined), as did all six campaigners for school board.

Candidates are vying for four open seats on the City Council and three seats on the school board. Click on a candidate's name below for the video and a brief biography.

I read them all, and watched as much as I could stomach.

The only video That captured my attention was Smokey Wallace.

All the others are the same old issues and answers from council candidates going back for years.

Smokey is the only one who shows any new pragmatic rational thinking about Palo Alto issues.

Bill Ross is my choice for a new voice on the City Council. He is an honest, straight-forward person who has legitimate concerns for our city. We need his experience and his rich knowledge about city government. I sincerely hope that he will be elected to represent all of the citizens of Palo Alto. He will make an enormous contribution to the future of Palo Alto.

( Pointing out that he as spent money to hire a political consultant seemed naive to me. Most of the fliers and brochures that we receive have been originated by professionals.)

I agree with Logical except I would leave his words "pragmatic rational" and just put it as "new thinking". I will probably vote for only Wallace.
