| An arrest has been made in Mountain View's first murder since 2005, police spokesman Liz Wylie said today.
A friend of the man fatally shot, Marco Jauregui, 25, of Milpitas, was arrested at a relative's home early this morning. Jauregui is accused of shooting death of his acquaintance Rene Escalante, 24, at Whisman Park at about 12:30 a.m. Sunday in the 300 block of Easy Street.
Two witnesses were among the group of four friends when, for unknown reasons, Jauregui shot Escalante several times and then fled, Wylie said.
Escalante, who had lived in Mountain View off and on for several years, was pronounced dead at a local hospital Sunday.
"We knew who our suspect was from the very beginning," Wylie said. "It was just a matter of getting the warrants."
Wylie said the incident is not being investigated as gang-related and no motive has been discovered. — Bay City News Service Are you receiving Express, our free daily e-mail edition? See a sample and sign-up for Express.
