Driver in fatal July crash posts bail
|
| Edith Delgado posted $100,000 bail Friday afternoon and will remain free while appealing her vehicular manslaughter conviction, San Mateo County Chief Deputy District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe reported Saturday.
The 19-year-old Redwood City resident was convicted in June of misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter in connection with the July 2006 crash on U.S. Highway 101 in Menlo Park that killed three people, including two members of the Tongan royal family.
Delgado was in custody in San Mateo County jail Friday morning after Superior Court Judge John Runde ordered her to post bail if she wanted to remain free during the appeal.
Wagstaffe said she posted bail around 3:30 p.m. Friday.
On Aug. 24, Delgado was sentenced to two years in jail. She already has 516 days credit for time served, including credit for good behavior. — Bay City News Service Are you receiving Express, our free daily e-mail edition? See a sample and sign-up for Express.

Posted by Driver, a resident of the Fairmeadow neighborhood, on Sep 4, 2007 at 9:58 am I'm sorry for this girl but as a driver I hope she is relieved of her driving privileges. I know there is a huge problem with drag racing in the area and people are killed as the result. Anyone who would engage in this even once should forfeit their license for good.

Posted by OJJustice, a resident of the Old Palo Alto neighborhood, on Sep 4, 2007 at 9:42 pm Forfeit her license? Heck, she should be doing at least 5 years hard time after recklessly causing 3 deaths. Luckily for her, she's an Edith and not a John - they would've locked a John up and thrown away the key!

Posted by system failure in RWC, a member of the Hoover School community, on Oct 23, 2007 at 1:10 pm I hope every day she wakes up and thanks God for nobody getting that license plate to that cadillac escalade she was racing with. Someday it will come up and all the drivers will pay. The best thing about our judicial system is there's no statuate of limitations for murder. She knows what she did, and may daddy spend the rest of his money to try to save sweet little Edith when the truth finally comes out. Upset in RWC.
