| The top two teams from the regular season advanced to the semifinals of the Palo Alto Babe Ruth City Tournament following victories Monday at Baylands Athletic Center.
Regular-season champ Alhouse-King Realty and runnerup Old Pro will meet today at 5:30 p.m. at Baylands, with the winner advancing to Friday's championship game at 5:30 p.m. The loser will play in Thursday's consolation-bracket finals (7 p.m.) against the winner of tonight's 8 p.m. contest between ATV and Corium International.
Should the undefeated team in Friday's game lose, a championship challenge game will follow at 8 p.m.
Alhouse-King advanced with a 2-1 win over Corium while Old Pro knocked ATV into the consolation bracket with a 6-3 victory.
Alhouse-King, which went 14-4 during the regular season to earn the top seed for the postseason tournament, escaped with the opening-round victory thanks to a base-running blunder by Corium.
With two out and runners on third and first in the top of the seventh, Noah Johnson took off from first base. The plan was for him to get caught in a rundown long enough for teammate Justin Artim to score from third.
Alhouse-King starting pitcher Matt Jost, however, foiled the plan by making Johnson commit to second base quicker than Johnson had wanted. Before Artim could score from third, Johnson was tagged out at second to end the game.
Jost and Corium starter Kevin Wilkins both went the distance while allowing only a combined 10 hits. Wilkins allowed just four.
Alhouse-King took a 1-0 lead in the third when Jon Rea came home on a fielder's choice. In the sixth, Alhouse-King made it 2-0 when Shane Turner produced an RBI double.
Corium scored once in the top of the seventh when Pedro Robinson singled and eventually got home on an error.
