A Palo Alto High School student walking behind Town & Country Village Shopping Center Tuesday morning saw a man with his pants down who appeared to be masturbating, Sgt. Sandra Brown said.

The student told school officials who then called police. When police arrived, the student said she had seen the man about a month ago also along the path that runs behind the shopping center and he appeared to be urinating that time.

Palo Alto High School Principal Scott Laurence sent an e-mail Tuesday to parents and teachers alerting them of the incident. (Read the letter from Scott Laurence).

Others, including a teacher, also saw what may have been same man in the same area twice in the last week, Brown said.

The man seen at 7:43 a.m. Tuesday was described as Hispanic, in his 40s, 5 feet 6 inches tall and weighing about 200 pounds. He was wearing a blue baseball hat with black writing and a green or red baggy jacket.
