A Palo Alto motorcycle officer was examined for injuries and released from Stanford Hospital last Thursday afternoon after he was knocked off his motorcycle while pursuing a driver for a traffic violation.

The incident happened around 2 p.m. on eastbound Churchill Avenue, Capt. Dennis Burns said. The officer had pulled out to pass other eastbound traffic when a car made a left turn into the Palo Alto Unified School District parking lot. The car and motorcycle collided.

Because a Palo Alto officer was involved, Menlo Park police are investigating to determine if there was any traffic violation in the collision, Burn said.
