| Police arrested a man riding a bicycle under the influence of drugs or alcohol at a sobriety checkpoint in Palo Alto late Friday night.
The checkpoint, at Alma Street and Churchill Avenue, was being manned by Palo Alto, Mountain View and Los Altos police. Just before midnight, a bicyclist crossed the railroad tracks, ran a red light, and was almost struck by a car, all in full view of surprised officers, said Palo Alto Police Agent Dan Ryan.
Arthur Green, 46, of San Francisco was found to be under the influence and with a pocketful of cocaine, Ryan said.
The checkpoint, which was in place for six hours until 3 a.m. Saturday, netted five DUI arrests and one drunk in public arrest, in addition to the drug arrest. — Don Kazak Are you receiving Express, our free daily e-mail edition? See a sample and sign-up for Express.
