Eshoo votes for war-limiting legislation
|
| U.S. Rep. Anna Eshoo, D-Palo Alto, voted today for H.R. 1591, which sets a deadline of withdrawing all U.S. troops from Iraq by Aug. 31, 2008.
The bill also calls for the Iraq government to take more responsibility for reducing sectarian violence.
The bill passed the House on a 218-212 vote. President George W. Bush said he will veto it if it reaches his desk. The bill now goes to the Senate, where it is unlikely to pass with the deadline date intact, according to CNN.
"Madame Speaker, our country has just begun the fifth year of war in Iraq," Eshoo said on the floor of the House.
"By overwhelming numbers, the American people want a new direction and I believe this bill contains the policy and the plan to help bring an end to the misguided policies of the administration."
