Critical fire conditions today in mountains, hills

Bookmark and Share
A red-flag warning for critical fire weather conditions is in effect today in the mountains and hills of the Bay Area due to strong winds, low relative humidity and warm temperatures.

Northeast winds between 10 and 20 mph with gusts to 30 mph increased slightly Saturday morning then decreased. Dry air and strong winds in areas of dry fuel are contributing to produce the critical fire-danger conditions.

The red-flag warning will continue until 5 p.m. in the San Mateo and Palo Alto foothills, the Santa Cruz Mountains, Santa Clara County, Sonoma and Marin counties, Napa County and the East Bay hills.

To the east of us across the Bay is the Coast Range which is classified as 'mountains' including Mt. Hamilton and Mt Diablo.

To the west of us are the Santa Cruz Mountains among others. The 'foothills' are lower down.
