'Science under Stars' looks at stem cells
Free talk on science, ethics, politics outside Cantor Arts Center

Share
“Embryonic stem cells: Science, Ethics, and Politics” will be the topic of a free lecture under the stars on Thursday, August 31, at 7 p.m. on the grass outside the Cantor Arts Center at Stanford.

Julie Baker, assistant professor of genetics, and Hank Greely, professor of law, will discuss human embryonic stem cells and the complicated issues they raise. Ms. Baker’s lab is working to create human embryonic stem cells, while Mr. Greely serves on Stanford and California committees working to ensure that stem cell research proceeds ethically.

The Cantor Arts Center and Cool Cafe will be open from 5 to 8 p.m. for people who want to browse in the museum, or eat a $12 organic bouffet barbecue, either meat or veggie. Chairs will be provided, and people can bring their own chairs, blankets and picnics.
