When multi-talented E.J. Floreal packed his bags and joined his family on its move to Kentucky last summer, Floreal took with him a big chunk of the Palo Alto track and field team. At least that's what most believed.

Floreal, after all, had helped the Paly 400 relay team set school records multiple times in 2012, helped Paly win the Central Coast Section team crown and gotten the Vikings to the CIF State Meet in the relay as well as himself in the 100 and 200 -- events in which he set school marks of 10.52 and 21.16 during the year.

While Floreal left with his blazing speed, he didn't leave Paly that shorthanded. The Vikings are still very fast, which they showed Thursday during a 92-29 romp over host Mountain View in a SCVAL De Anza Division dual meet.

"I keep telling the boys that E.J. wasn't the whole team," said Paly head coach Jason Fung.

The Paly boys won the 400 relay in 43.03, their second-fastest time of the year, got a one-two finish in the 100 meters from Jayshawn Gates (10.97) and Michael Johnson (10.98), the No. 2 and 3 times in CCS this year, and a blazing 49.63 victory in the 400 by Johnson, fastest in the section despite coasting the final 100.

"I'm happy with that," Fung said of Sullivan's 400, a personal record. "Every week he's coming down in time."

Fung also liked the times in the 100, where Paly swept 9-0 as Matt Tolbert finished third in a season-best 11.08.

Gates (formerly Gates-Mouton) also added a 22.38 victory in the 200, fastest in the CCS this season, while leading another Paly sweep.

"We've got depth in the sprints," said Fung, who said a lot of offseason weight training has made a big difference in the early season. In fact, the Paly sprinters are running faster overall at this point of the season than last year.

Fung even went so far to mention that the school record in the 400 relay (41.56) could even fall this year.

While Paly dominated the sprints, it also had some standout efforts in the field events. Victor Du won the high jump at 6-2, among the CCS leaders, and added a section-leading 22-5 1/4 while winning the long jump.

In the girls' meet, Palo Alto completed a rare sweep of the Spartans with a 74-48 triumph. Pippa Raffel was a double winner in the long jump (15-6) and triple jump (33-8) while Anna Dukovic moved among the CCS leaders in the high jump with a 5-2 leap to win.

The Gunn boys and girls, meanwhile, split their home meet with Lynbrook -- the girls posting a 93-29 victory and the boys dropping a 73-49 decision.

Gunn received standout efforts from freshmen Gillian Meeks and Maya Miklos, each of whom produced three victories.

Meeks earned the iron woman award by running to victory in the 1,600 (5:21.72), 800 (2:26.81) and 3,200 (12:02.67) -- an effort rarely attempted in a dual meet.

Miklos stuck to shorter races while winning the 400 in 1:02.42, the 300 hurdles in 50.30 and 100 hurdles in 16.50. Senior Kirsten Baird added wins in the long jump (15-6) and high jump (4-10) to help the Titans win for new head coach PattiSue Plumer, a two-time Olympian and former Stanford All-American runner and Cardinal assistant coach.

In the boys' SCVAL De Anza Division meet, Gunn senior Eric Price did his best to keep his team in it by winning the long jump (20-2 1/2), high jump (5-8) and triple jump with a meet record of 44-4 1/4. Gunn junior Sean Lydster added victories in the 100 (11.47) and 200 (23.62).
