Police have arrested a San Jose man for an armed robbery and sexual assault at Palo Alto's Glass Slipper Inn earlier this month, the Palo Alto Police Department announced today, March 20.

David Yi, 44, was arrested by Palo Alto detectives on March 15, at 10 a.m. on two outstanding warrants in the 3300 block of Cropley Avenue in San Jose.

On the evening of Saturday, March 9, Yi allegedly contacted the victim, after finding her advertisement for massages on an online service. Police say he called her to arrange for a meeting in a specific room at the Glass Slipper Inn at 3941 El Camino Real.

Once inside the hotel room he allegedly immediately produced a knife and ordered the victim to give him all of her money. After she complied, he allegedly ordered her to participate in a sex act with him.

After the sexual assault, Yi, who was unknown to the victim, left the hotel room and encountered an associate of the victim. The associate was sitting on a chair nearby. He allegedly brandished the knife at that woman and demanded money from her. She had no money to give him, and he left on foot, police said.

Detectives immediately began investigating the case and identified Yi as the suspect. He had two outstanding felony warrants: one for assault with a deadly weapon in San Jose, and the other for a probation violation out of Santa Clara County.

He was on probation in Santa Clara County stemming from a prior conviction for possession of methamphetamine and being under the influence of narcotics, police said. A surveillance photo captured his image and was released to the media by police after the crime.

Yi was booked into Santa Clara County Main Jail for the two outstanding warrants. Following his arrest, detectives worked with the Santa Clara County District Attorney's Office and obtained a felony arrest warrant charging him with robbery, attempted robbery, and forcible oral copulation. Detectives served the warrant on Yi on Tuesday, March 19, while he was still in custody.

Yi is not linked to other recent robberies in Palo Alto, police said.

Thanks PD for getting this guy off the streets. A meth-ed out crazy with a knife and a history of trying to use it. A dangerous man is off the streets for now. Your turn D.A.

Wonder how long it will take for him to be back on the street again?

Such an outstanding citizen, the Judge will probably release him OR.

Is it not about time the knife carriers were given an amnesty in order that they surrender their weapons. Knife carrying should be illegal, and anyone caught with the same should receive ten years in the slammer or as in this persons case ten years and then deported.

Great job by the police. Not so great job with the comments here.

Video cameras are really useful ... why don't we have them in problem areas of Palo Alto ... do we not want to admit there are problem areas of Palo Alto, or are there too many?

At least Yi finally got a better picture published! Hopefully he will look much older when he gets out of jail. ;-)
