Vikings power past Saratoga in baseball, swimming

Senior Isaac Feldstein hit two of Palo Alto's five home runs and drove in two runs to help the Vikings beat host Saratoga, 11-3, Friday in a SCVAL De Anza Division game.

James Foug, Austin Kron and Sean Harvey also homered for Palo Alto (3-1, 6-4), which stayed even with Wilcox at the top of the De Anza standings.

Wilcox beat Gunn (0-6, 3-10), 9-4, to claim a share of first place.

The Vikings host San Ramon Valley in a nonleague game today at noon and visits Menlo School on Monday.

Danny Erlich struck out three over six innings to gain the win. Ellis O'Brien pitched the seventh to finish the contest.

Jack Cleasby had a double among his two hits, while Austin Poore, and Harvey each added two hits.

In nonleague action, Will Reilly and Will Nahmens each hit a double but those were the only hits Sacred Heart Prep (7-4) could muster in a 7-0 loss to host Burlingame.

In SCVAL El Camino Division softball action, Casey Maltz and Claire Klausner each recorded two hits but Gunn fell to host Milpitas, 7-2, on Friday.

The Titans committed five errors, which led to six unearned runs in the bottom of the second inning. Klausner held the Trojans to one run in her 4 2/3 innings of relief. She struck out seven.

Freshman Kate Garvey and sophomore Iris Chin each drove in a run for Gunn (1-1, 2-5) against the El Camino Division leaders.

Both the Palo Alto boys and girls swimming teams earned victories Friday against host Saratoga. The Vikings won the boys meet by a 108-62 score and the girls meet, 116-54.

Andrew Liang posted top times in the sprints, recording a swift 21.87 in the 50 free and 47.85 in the 100 free for the boys. He also swam on two winning relay teams.

Jayna Wittenbrink also swam some quick times for the girls. She went 25.18 in the 50 free, 57.84 in the 100 fly and competed on two winning relay teams.
