Police investigate string of residential burglaries

Bookmark and Share
Police are investigating a string of four residential burglaries in Palo Alto, three of which occurred on the same day.

Officer Marco Estrada said police estimate that victims the three burglaries that occurred March 12 lost more than $8,000.

Estrada said burglars used different methods of entry in each of the incidents, but police haven't ruled out that the crimes are connected.

Sometime between 10:15 a.m. and 8 p.m. someone forced open a back door of a house on the 4200 block of Mackay Drive. Estrada said the resident, a woman in her 30s, is missing jewelry, women's clothing, a laptop, a gift card and a bottle of liquor. Estrada said she estimates she lost at least $900.

The costliest burglary on Tuesday occurred between 10:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. on the 100 block of Roosevelt Circle. After gaining entry by breaking a sliding-glass door, the burglar took an iPad, an Apple laptop, bottles of whiskey worth $175, and an unknown amount of jewelry worth $5,000. The total loss in the burglary was at least $7,375, said Estrada.

A thief may have entered through the doggie door of the third burglary sometime between 12:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. on the 200 block of Creekside Drive. Electronics and jewelry were missing, but the amounts were still pending, Estrada said.

The final burglary occurred during home construction on the 300 block of Curtner Avenue and could have been any time between Feb. 27 and March 3. Burglars nabbed a stove and refrigerator worth approximately $300.

Estrada said the total value of the losses may change as victims discover more items that are missing.

I don't even have a small cat door, for fear of wild animals entering my home. Once, I left my back door wide open right before dusk and was surprised by the rather loud crunching of cat kibble in my hallway. When I came around the corner to investigate, there was a VERY large raccoon helping himself to my kitty's chow!

Out he went with only a half full tummy of sneaked kibble.

This is getting too close for comfort. Here is an article I found that has good ideas for preventing burglaries, Web Link

And Palo Altans, how about we all install security cameras and catch these people? Or these raccoons who like the good vodka.

Obviously the perp is a petite, tipsy, Epicurious cook who dresses to impress.
