Stanford grad Goldstein set for ITA Tennis Hall of Fame

Stanford graduate Paul Goldstein, who helped guide the Cardinal to the NCAA Team Championship each of his four seasons from 1995-98, will be among the inductees into the 2013 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Men's Collegiate Tennis Hall of Fame.

Paul Goldstein was a four-time ITA All-American in doubles and an ITA All-American in singles. In 1998, Goldstein reached the NCAA singles final and was named the Pac-10 Player of the Year. He finished his collegiate career with 84 singles victories, fifth most in Stanford history, and three All-Pac-10 selections.

Goldstein is an ITA/Rafael Osuna Sportsmanship Award winner and is a two-time recipient of the ITA/Arthur Ashe Jr. Award for Sportsmanship and Leadership.

The ITA announced on Friday its 2013 class that also includes coaches Bobby Bayliss (Notre Dame), Dennis Emery (Kentucky), and John Peterson (Tyler Junior College), in addition to players Kelly Jones (Pepperdine) and Harold Solomon (Rice) plus contributor Alan Schwartz (Yale).

The 2013 honorees will be inducted at the 2013 ITA Men's Collegiate Hall of Fame Enshrinement Banquet, which will be held on May 22 during the NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Tennis Championships at the University of Illinois in Champaign.

In other tennis news:

Stanford's Director of Tennis and former men's coach Dick Gould will host a USTA Tennis Festival at Stanford on Saturday as part of March Into Tennis.

The event is call Campus Kids & Tennis Play Day and will run from 10:30 a.m. until noon at the Taube Family Tennis Center.

More than a thousand facilities across the U.S. will host Tennis Festivals to showcase the fun and excitement of playing tennis, as well as sharing with parents the benefits of involving their children in the sport.

Tennis Festivals welcome the whole family to play tennis at all skill levels. Parents and children are encouraged to participate and experience first-hand the way in which tennis is now sized right for their kids age and ability.

The Tennis Festivals initiative coincides with "Tennis Night in America" on Monday at New York's Madison Square Garden. Tennis Night in America will feature the BNP Paribas Showdown, with 2012 US Open champion and Olympic gold medalist, Serena Williams, against the world's No. 1 woman player, Victoria Azarenka.
