Stanford recorded a 10-over-par 586 to win the Cal Classic women's golf tournament at the Ruby Hill Golf Club.

The Cardinal (298-288) shot on par in the final round in the best team performance of the tournament on Tuesday.

In her career-best finish, sophomore Mariko Tumangan carded a 4-under-par 68 to finish tied for second. Tumangan (76-68) was 4-over in the opening round but came back with five birdies and one bogey to lead Stanford at 144.

"My ball striking was great today," said Tumangan who hit 12 fairways and 31 putts. "I really trusted myself and my swing."

During a tight match against Arizona State where the Cardinal fought to remain at the top of the leader board, late birdies from Tumangan, freshman Lauren Kim, and senior Sally Watson propelled Stanford to the team victory.

"It was so exciting coming down the stretch," Stanford assistant coach Kathryn Imrie said. "We all stepped up and produced some birdies right when they counted. They all finished so strong and we (coaches) are so proud. We knew we couldn't make mistakes today if we were to win."

"Every week we go out, our goal is to win," Cardinal coach Anne Walker said. "Sometimes things are out of our control, but we go out and put the lowest numbers that we can."

Freshmen Mariah Stackhouse and Kim also placed in the top 10. Stackhouse (74-72) tied for sixth at 146, while Kim (73-74) tied for ninth at 147.

Junior Danielle Frasier (75-74) tied for 14th at 149 to match a career best. She previously tied for 14th at the 2011 WSU Cougar Cup where she carded a 12-over-par 228.

Watson (78-74) birdied her last hole to finish tied for 22nd at 152. The senior came back four strokes better in the final round.

The Cardinal compete next at the Juli Inkster Spartan Invitational in San Jose on March 4-5.

"Our next tournament will be our last home event," said Walker. "So far we have had a great time playing in Northern California and we're looking for another opportunity to get a win on the board."
