Freshman Kelsey Stevens retired all 21 batters she faced Saturday, pitching a perfect game in No. 17 Stanford's 4-0 victory over Virginia in the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic.

Cassandra Roulund had three hits and drove in three runs for the Cardinal (12-3), which plays Florida State and Syracuse on Sunday.

Stevens (7-1) needed just 79 pitches, 55 for strikes, to get through the Cavaliers' lineup. She struck out 10 and went to a full count once in the game.

"Kelsey was fantastic for us against Virginia," Stanford coach John Rittman said. "She had all of her pitches working and kept Virginia off-balance. I am very happy for Kelsey and excited about her performance."

Stevens was a four-time first team all-state selection in New Mexico and owns the Volcano Vista High School record for lowest ERA.

Stevens recorded her sixth complete game and her fifth shutout. She lowered her ERA to 1.09 and opposing players are batting .146 against her.

She extended her scoreless inning streak to 30 2/3 innings.

She has 62 strikeouts in 51 1/3 innings and a WHIP of 0.90, which measures the number of baserunners a pitcher allows per inning.

The 5-foot-10 pitcher also led her high school basketball team in scoring.

Tegan Schmidt also drove in a run for the Cardinal, while Leah White, Sarah Hassman, Jenna Rich, Kayla Bonstrom and Alyssa Lombardo each had two hits.
