The Stanford baseball home opener scheduled for Tuesday against Cal (5 p.m.) has been postponed due to intermittent rain showers in the Palo Alto area.

The game as been rescheduled for 5 p.m. on Wednesday at Sunken Diamond.

Stanford is coming off a 1-2 road trip to Rice over the weekend and has fallen to No. 11 in the Collegiate Baseball Top 25 poll and to No. 15 in the Baseball America Top 25.

Men's golf
Stanford was tied for seventh place at 1-over-par 285 after the opening round of the Prestige at PGA West on the Greg Norman Course.

Junior Cameron Wilson led Stanford with a 4-under-par 67 after four birdies and no bogeys, tying for first.

"I got off to a good start and made a bunch of putts on the front nine," said Wilson, who birdied the second, fifth, eighth, and 13th holes. "In the back nine, I hit the ball much better but I couldn't make any birdie putts. I made a lot of good decisions and I didn't put myself in too much trouble."

Under ideal conditions, five teams shot under par in the first round with TCU in first with a 278, seven strokes ahead of the Cardinal.

"All in all it was a decent start," said Stanford coach Conrad Ray. "I think the tournament will get a little interesting based on the weather forecast. It's supposed to get a little windy in the next couple of days and the course changes a lot with the wind. We'll just wake up tomorrow and see what it brings, and keep working hard."

Cardinal sophomore Patrick Rodgers carded two consecutive birdies on the eighth and ninth holes and took a 1-over round into the back nine where he made two more birdies on the 16th and 18th. Rodgers finished the round with a 70, tying for 11th.

Stanford senior Andrew Yun recorded a 72 for a tie in 28th. Rounding out the field was Cardinal freshman David Boote and senior Steve Kearney, tied for 64th at 76.

For the individuals competing for the Cardinal, sophomore Patrick Grimes from Menlo School shot 71, tying for 21st. Redshirt junior Andre DeDecker finished at 73 for 47th. Junior Shane Lebow tied for 64th at 76 and freshman Dominick Francks tied for 72nd at 77.

Softball
Stanford freshman pitcher Kelsey Stevens has been selected the Pac-12 Pitcher of the Week for Feb. 11-17, Commissioner Larry Scott announced today.

Stevens earned three shutouts in the Stanford Nike Invitational last weekend to improve to 5-1. Stevens posted a 0.00 ERA, allowing just four hits and issuing three walks in 16.2 innings pitched. She tallied 20 strikeouts and held opponents to a .075 batting average.

She tossed back-to-back one-hitters as Stanford defeated CSU Bakersfield 12-0 in five innings and UC Davis 8-0 in six innings. The Albuquerque, N.M., native leads the team with a 1.50 ERA and 49 strikeouts on the season. The Cardinal posted six victories last week, outscoring its opponents 52-0.

Stevens nabs her first Pitcher of the Week honors and picks up the 52nd weekly honor for the Cardinal. UCLA senior B.B. Bates was named the conference's Player of the Week.

Stanford hits the road this weekend, traveling to Cathedral City to participate in the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic Feb. 22-24. The Cardinal will take on No. 13/16 Georgia, Oklahoma State, Virginia, No. 23 Florida State and Syracuse.

Women's squash
Stanford senior Pamela Chua was named the 2012-13 recipient of the Richey Award, the first in Stanford women's squash history.

The Richey Award is given annually to the women's squash player who best exemplifies their love and devotion to the game, fairness, and excellence of play and leadership.

The three-time All-American competed in Stanford's first position all four years of her collegiate career, taking on every opponent's top player.

Chua finished this season with a 7-6 record and helped lead Stanford to a seventh-place finish at the Howe Cup, women's squash's national championship.

The Richey Award is decided by a vote among all 32 NCAA women's squash coaches.

Athletic department
Bernard Muir, Stanford University's Jaquish & Kenninger Director of Athletics, announced today the hiring of Kurt Svoboda as Senior Assistant Athletics Director of Media Relations & Communications.

Svoboda comes from Harvard University, where as Assistant Director of Athletics he served as the department's chief public and media relations executive for eight years. At Harvard, Svoboda worked at The Game, the Crimson's annual clash with Yale. Now in his new role as Stanford Athletics' main football contact, Svoboda will transition into The Big Game.

Svoboda, who has worked as the direct contact for 12 of Harvard's 41 varsity teams over the years, brings an expertise in traditional and digital media platforms and will utilize that background at Stanford.
