 | Stanford football coach David Shaw said a "freak occurrence" resulted in an injury that "shocked us" to Stanford quarterback Josh Nunes some time in the past two weeks.
The injury, sustained while performing something workout-related, will keep Nunes out of spring practice, which begins Monday, Feb. 25.
Shaw declined to offer any more information, only to say that Nunes will be wearing a sling and is expected to make a full recovery.
Nunes opened the last season as the Cardinal starter, directing Stanford to wins over then No. 2 USC and Arizona.
Nunes made nine starts, throwing for 1,643 yards and 10 touchdowns while completing nearly 53 percent of his passes.
Kevin Hogan, who saw his playing time increase during the season, took over during a victory at Colorado and assumed the starting role for the season's final five games, all victories over ranked opponents, including the Rose Bowl.
Backups Evan Crower and Dallas Lloyd will receive the majority of snaps, following Hogan, when Stanford begins spring practice— Palo Alto Online Sports Are you receiving Express, our free daily e-mail edition? See a sample and sign-up for Express.
