James Jensen pitched into the eighth inning, John Bowling and James Threw each drove in two runs and the Menlo College baseball team opened its season with a 7-1 victory over host Westmont on Tuesday.

Michael Brandi also doubled home a run as the Oaks finally got a chance to play after seeing their first four games washed out. Menlo dropped the second game, 7-4.

The Oaks (1-1) visit Concordia for a doubleheader on Sunday, beginning at 10 a.m.

Jensen allowed one run on five hits over 7 1/3 innings. He struck out five and did not walk a batter.

"We got a great pitching performance from James," Menlo coach Stefan McGovern said. "He pounded the strike zone and could have gone the whole game if we didn't need to get some guys some work."

Kyer Vega added a home run for Menlo and Bowling recorded two hits.

Menlo took a 4-0 lead in the second game, with Ronnie Schivo and Corey Metoyer each driving in runs. The Oaks also scored on a balk and wild pitch.

Softball
Menlo College (3-1) hosts Biola in a doubleheader on Wednesday beginning at 11 a.m.

The game will be streamed live from the Menlo Athletic website.
