Stanford women win own water polo tournament

Kaley Dodson picked just the right time to score her first two goals of Sunday's contest.

Dodson scored twice in the final 2:32 of play to help give the top-ranked Stanford women's water polo team an 8-5 victory over UCLA in the championship game of the Stanford Invitational.

The Bruins held a 4-3 advantage at halftime but were then shut down, scoring once in the second half.

UCLA drew within 6-5 with just over six minutes remaining.

Kate Baldoni made three of her six saves in the final quarter, keeping the Bruins from tying it.

Dodson scored her first goal with 2:32 remaining and gave the Cardinal breathing room with 1:24 left with her second goal.

Stanford, which won its fourth straight Stanford Invitational, scored twice in the third quarter and took a 5-4 lead into the final quarter.

Maggie Steffens scored her lone goal of the game on Stanford's first possession of the final period.

Anna Yelizarova led Stanford with three goals.

The Cardinal beat UC Davis, 11-2, earlier in the day as Kiley Neushul recorded a hat trick while Melissa Seidemann and Yelizarova each scored twice.

Wrestling
Stanford dropped a 29-7 Pac-12 decision to host Boise State on Sunday.

The Cardinal won the first two matches and Boise State won the rest.

Stanford redshirt freshman Evan Silver scored the first points of the day for the Cardinal with a 5-1 decision over Rami Haddadin at 125 pounds.

At 133 pounds, Stanford sophomore Alex Manley posted his first win of the season with a 9-1 major decision over Landon Hartley.

At 165 pounds, Stanford junior Bret Baumbach had his eight-match winning streak snapped as he fell in overtime to Holden Packard, 4-2.

Stanford hosts San Francisco State on Saturday, at 3:30 p.m. in Burnham Pavilion.

Baseball
Stanford grad and Tampa Bay outfielder Sam Fuld hosted his second annual diabetes sports camp.
